Why are we fundraising for UNDSCVRD 2021?
Our favorite Filipino Night Market was made possible back in 2017 by the generous donations of 412 backers. From that initial $41,636 raised, we made dreams into reality. The success of UNDSCVRD opened the eyes of not just our community, but funders like the City of San Francisco of the possibilities of a Filipino Cultural District. We were fortunate to receive $125,000 from the City of San Francisco to produce 5 events every year.
Then the pandemic hit.
Business ground to a halt and tax revenues dropped dramatically… and budgets got cut. Last year with the generosity of Kollective Hustle, we pivoted to an online only event called UNDSCVRD X connecting the Filipinx diaspora around the world.
Recovery in a Post-Vax World
This year we were able to scrap together $25,500 in grant funding from various sponsors (as of this writing), which may seem like a lot but is not enough to produce a FREE event at our scale. Each UNDSCVRD costs roughly about $66,000! This money goes directly to permits, staff, artists, port-a-potties, security, staging, etc.
We know times are tough for a lot of folks. UNDSCVRD is a platform to support the multitude of businesses and creatives that were hit hard during the pandemic. Most importantly, it’s a way to show our resilience as a community. If you’re a fan of Filipinx culture and the community that comes out to our events, please support UNDSCVRD.
