Valentine's Greeting Cards

Gif by: Warren Fu

IN HONOR OF MARCO JASTILLANA:

In honor and celebration of Marco’s Jastillana’s birthday on February 1st, 1976. Brought to you by the inaugural class of the Brownthought Academy, the Valentine’s greeting card project is inspired by Marco Jastillana’s quotes and sayings which display his charming wit and cheeky sense of humor.  There is no doubt we weren’t one way or another impacted by his Marcoisms.  Self dubbed as his “Brownthoughts” which later inspired the naming for his legacy honoring internship.

Some stars can pull others into their orbit, and others shine brighter than others. On 1/9/20, we lost the brightest star, friend, brother, and son we will ever know.

With Marco’s legacy in mind and in collaboration with the Jastillana Family, UNDSCVRD launched the Brownthought Academy - a marketing bootcamp and internship designed to pass on Marco’s teachings and deep love for the community to the next generation of leaders.

Capturing his entrepreneurial spirit, magnetism, creativity and commitment to the Filipino community, Marco’s legacy lives on.

As part of the Brownthought Academy’s final project, the inaugural class is launching fundraising campaigns to generate funds to replenish the BA Academy internship for a second year so UNDSCVRD can continue to share Marco’s teaching and wisdom with the future generation of Filipino American marketers and changemakers.

*The inaugural class of Brownthought Academy consists of

2020 was a year that reminded us about our humanity.  It was a year filled with uncertainty, strict shelter in place, safety protocols and the fight for social justice.

Although mostly negative news, the upside of the COVID-19 pandemic has filipino families & communities all around the world entering the new year with more sympathy and compassion for one another.

With shelter in place in full effect and social distancing the norm, what better way to show someone you love them this season with a thoughtfully designed greeting card.

Thanks to Marco’s brother, Erwin and teenage sweet heart, Ana; Marco’s love poems from the early 90s have resurfaced posthumously.

His undiscovered poems from his youth are passionately written from the heart, reminding us that there is always time for an expression of love — a force that transcends the dimensions of time and space.

Specifically his love letter from the Sun to his beloved Moon, a major inspiration for this series of Valentine’s greeting cards reimagine his words into beautifully designed greeting cards.

From the 90s aesthetic graffiti illustrations to his architectural handwritten love poems, Marco’s creative spirit and heart, which later became a signature to his legacy, encapsulates his endearing sense of compassion & style.
