Original Pilipino Music is the Bridge Over Oceans

Worlds collide as we bring FIlipino Hip-Hop and R&B stars together for a discussion on Filipinx culture and it's impact on their music featuring Ruby Ibarra (USA), Jeff Bernat (USA), and Kiana V (Philippines.). These three artists are paving the way for the global diasporas to connect over a mutual love: Original Pilipino Music.

Original Pilipino Music, or OPM for short, has a beautiful history intertwined with Filipino culture. From the legendary romance ballads of Basil Valdes and the disco hits of VST & Co., to the socio-politically zealous rock and hip-hop of Francis Magallona, Filipinx musicians have told our stories for decades.

Today, OPM is soaring to new heights.

Kiana V is the premier neo-soul R&B artist from Manila. Quirky, complicated, and joyful, this newest addition to PARADISE RISING is charting her own path to the global stage.

With passion and vulnerability guiding her every lyric, Kiana is sure to draw you in and have you eagerly waiting for what is next.

Jeff Bernat is a Filipino R&B/Soul Singer-Songwriter-Producer based in Los Angeles, CA. His 2011 debut album reached #5 on the iTunes Charts and placed on the Best Picture Oscar winning film ‘Birdman’. He has had a #1 song in Korea and has worked with many notable Korean pop artists. His recent EP entitled ‘She Loves Me Not’ which released this past Valentine’s Day hit over 1 million streams on Spotify in less than a month and has reached over 10 million streams. Jeff has been able to accomplish all of this by being fully independent.

Rapper. Poet. Fighter.

UNDSCVRD favorite and rapper-scientist dynamo, Ruby Ibarra has not skipped a beat despite the craziness of 2020. Constantly a warrior for Filipinxs on a global scale, Ruby never shies away from her mission to unify Filipinxs.

Ruby’s unmatched talent and work ethic has allowed her to be featured on Buzzfeed, NPR, and Huffington Post, while having the opportunity to perform on large stages such as Rock the Bells Festival, Paid Dues Festival, and Araneta Coliseum. Additionally, in 2016, she had three independent videos each gain over 1,000,000 views in less than one week.
